Date night can be the highlight of the week for many young couples. However us ‘Moodie Foodies’ know all too well that it can be a very stressful experience trying to choose a restaurant to take your breath away – with a bill that won’t. We’ve tried all the hottest spots around Dublin city to help all you romantics make an informed choice for your next big night. So here we bring to you some of the standouts so you can put the ‘ate’ in Date Night.
Featherblade

If proximity to Dublin’s bustling nightlife is high on your priorities, it doesn’t get much better than this place. Located in the heart of Dawson street, this steakhouse offers a concise menu, specialising in steaks and burgers. What better way to unwind with your significant other than some red meat and red wine?
Although better known for their quality steaks, these guys really know what makes a top class burger. Don’t worry about the limited options because both burgers on this menu will satisfy even the pickiest of connoisseurs.
Although the food was almost faultless, the same cannot be said for the service. Even allowing for it being Saturday evening i.e prime time for diners, there were still some discrepancies in the experience. Firstly, despite having a reservation amongst the more opportunistic ‘walk-in’ diners, we were given the coldest seat in the house, right by the front door! Not great for a first impression by our standards.
As someone who has worked in the field, I know all too well how difficult it can be to work peak service in a busy restaurant, but this doesn’t excuse the 50 minute wait time for food. This was worsened when we noticed 2 tables, who came in after us, finished their food before we had a bite! There were certainly some Moodie Foodies in Featherblade on Saturday night. However would the food be enough to bring us back? I would have to say YES! Besides, everyone deserves a second chance, right?

Saba
This Thai and Vietnamese gem has two locations within the city lines on
Baggot street…
South William Street…
with a third location for some post-retail therapy in Kildare Village.
You will not find a more authentic rendition of South East Asian cuisine in our small corner of the world. Saba prides itself on using the freshest ingredients flown from Bangkok weekly to give diners a real taste of Thailand. This really comes across in the food, the flavours cannot be replicated at home, believe me, i’ve tried! You and your better half will love the extensive range of currys, wok dishes and saba specials. There truly is something for everyone!

In addition to the deliciously nutritious menu, Saba boasts one of the finest cocktail menus in Dublin. This is what really sets Saba apart from the rest for a romantic evening. The conversation is sure to be flowing with over 12 unique cocktails to choose from. Be careful though, as their tempting sweetness keeps you coming back for more. At over €10 each, the costs can rack up quickly. Not drinking? They’ve got you covered too, with a selection of ‘mocktails’ priced at a reasonable €4.95.

Due to popular demand, expect to wait at least 10 minutes for your cocktails. However, the timeliness of the food, and the attention to detail of the staff more than make up for the temporary dry lips! You should definitely consider visiting Saba for your next romantic dinner. Worth. Every. Penny
